Global Community, Activities, and Programs
Have you ever wondered what it would be like if the entire world were shrunk down into a small village? Now, imagine if you had the opportunity to live in this blend of cultures, languages and personalities.. Of course, you would also want a village you could call home, a place where you are welcomed, can become involved, and feel supported; a place that helps you succeed in academic and personal goals. Colorado State University's Apartment Life is that place.
The residents and staff of Apartment Life are a global and multicultural community of individuals and families. We are a diverse blend of racial, ethnic, and socio-economic class backgrounds, and we represent a wide variety of national origins and sexual orientations. Our views encompass a broad spectrum of religious and political beliefs. The Apartment Life community is unique in that we work and live together, and in the process, learn from one another in an atmosphere of positive contact and mutual respect.
Apartment Life strongly believes that residents achieve a more productive and gratifying experience at the University if they feel at home in their living environment. Each apartment community has live-in student staff who work with residents to provide a wide range of programs. We provide a unique international environment and encourage residents to become involved in the many social, cultural, and educational events that support global diversity within the areas. These events provide opportunities for single students, students with families, and family members to adjust to their new life, while promoting autonomy, cooperative decision-making, and leadership development.
Apartment Life strives to create an inclusive and culturally rich community. To accomplish this goal, each living area develops an event calendar unique to the particular area. Central Programs works with the Apartment Life staff in providing unique and enriching programs for the residents, CSU campus, and the Fort Collins Community. Additionally, Central Programs collaborates with the CSU and Fort Collins communities to assist in creating enriching programs for the community.
The calendar changes yearly, but maintains a goal of providing a variety of enriching experiences for families, children, and single students. In addition to a degree, many of the Apartment Life residents and their families leave Colorado State University with a deeper awareness of how to connect with people from many different cultures. The residents' living environment allows the opportunity to develop multicultural associations leading to international friendships. The world is becoming globally inclusive through advanced technology, transportation and communication. Employment opportunities will be greater for those individuals who have developed cross-cultural competencies.
