What to Bring

Q: Are freshmen students guaranteed on-campus housing?
A: Yes. At Colorado State University, freshmen are guaranteed a space to live on campus in the residence halls. All newly admitted first-year students without previous college experience who are single, under 21 years of age, and who do not live with their parents in the Fort Collins area are required by University regulation to live and eat in the residence halls for the first two consecutive semesters of their enrollment

Q: What type of bed linens are needed for the beds?
A: All beds are 39 inches x 80 inches and require extra long twin sheets

Q: Can I request my bed to be lofted prior to my arrival?
A: Allison, Corbett, or Newsom Hall: You would need to order a loft. Visit the loft & microfridge page for more information.
All other halls: No. You will need to wait until you check into your hall.

Q: What appliances are allowed in the residence halls?
A: Small electrical that are UL approved and do not have open electric coils. Small microwaves and refrigerators are fine. Halogen lamps are not allowed.

Q: What should I bring with me for my room?
A: Visit the What to Bring section for a list of what to bring and what not to bring.

Q: What is the alcohol policy?
A: Alcohol, smoking, and drugs are not allowed in any of the residence halls.

Q: Whom should my student contact if something in their room is not working properly?
A: Students can place work orders by phone at 491-7171 or on-line.

Q: Do I need to bring a telephone?
A:
Telephone service is not provided in residence hall rooms. A subscription for telephone service can be purchased by contacting Housing Operations Management at (970)491-7171, or by placing a work order at http://www.housing.colostate.edu/optmgt/work_order_request.htm. If you purchase telephone service you must bring your own phone, answering machine, etc. At this time Voice over Internet Protocal (VOIP) is not available in the Residence Halls.

Q: Do all residence halls rooms have an Internet connection?
A: Yes. Visit the Technology Services page to learn more.

Q: Do all the residence hall rooms have cable television?
A: Each room is equipped with a cable TV hookup (60+ channels). If you have a cable-ready TV, there is no extra charge. If your TV is not cable-ready, you may obtain a converter from the local cable company for a small deposit. There is no monthly charge for this basic service.

Q: Are there laundry facilities available?
A: There are laundry facilities in every residence hall.

Q: What if I don’t get along with my roommate or suitemate?
A: Encourage your student to talk with their roommates/suitemates about their concerns. If this does not help, then they should bring their concerns to the Resident Assistant (RA) on the floor

Q: What if my student wants a room or hall change?
A: They must talk with the Office Manager at the front desk in their residence hall. This staff member will alert the Residence Director who will discuss a move with the student.

Mailing Addresses

Q: How do I send letters and/or packages to my student?
A: Each room has a mailbox with a corresponding room number in the desk area that is shared by the occupants of the room. Mail will be received without delay if it is addressed in the following manner:
For US Postal Services items:
Student Name
Room # Hall Name
Fort Collins, CO 80521

Using "Colorado State University" or the university zip code "80523" in the address will delay arrival since residence hall mail is delivered directly from the Fort Collins Post Office to the residence Halls.
For FedEX, UPS and other parcel delivery services that require a physical address:
Student Name
Physical address of the Residence Hall (listed below)
Room # Hall Name
Fort Collins, CO 80521

Because a photo ID is required to identify package recipients, packages addressed to someone who does not live in the room (such as parents) will be returned to sender. Ordering items under an alias or fictitious name is considered mail fraud.

Do’s and Don’ts of Decorating Rooms

Posters, pictures, plants, and rugs are a few of the typical items used to decorate residence hall rooms. Students will be charged for damage to the walls and floors that incur from decorating. Waterbeds and water-filled furniture of any kind are not allowed. Students are not permitted to paint their own rooms. For more detailed information, refer to the. Residence Hall Handbook (PDF)

Furniture Option

The Furniture Options Program is available in Allison, Newsom and Corbett Halls. Students in these halls may decide which pieces of University owned furniture they would like to keep and request that the other pieces be removed. Student rooms in all the halls have wall-to-wall carpeting. We have a 5 year Paint Program that rotates throughout the halls, but rooms badly in need of paint are painted as needed.

Many students choose to rent lofts to create more living space in their Residence Hall room. Lofts must meet specific safety requirements as listed in the Residence Hall Handbook. For more information on lofts and other rental items, visit the Operations Management page .

More information regarding room furnishings is available in the Residence Hall Handbook (PDF) and in the planner you will receive at move-in.
