Margaret Miller
Viola, Chamber Music Coordinator, Graduate String Quartet Program Coordinator
(970) 491-3276 | violaco@comcast.net

A native of Detroit, Margaret Miller received her degrees from Indiana University and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where she also received a Certificate from the Institute for Chamber Music founded by the Fine Arts Quartet. For eighteen years she was violist of the Da Vinci Quartet; during that time the Quartet toured throughout the U.S. and were prizewinners in both the Naumburg and Shostakovich Quartet Competitions. The Quartet recorded the chamber music of Arthur Foote and Charles Martin Loeffler for Naxos American Classics. The Da Vinci Quartet was in residence at the University of Denver and Colorado College, and had visiting residencies throughout the country. An important aspect of the Quartet’s work was to perform for underserved audiences, which lead to the HeartStrings program that was featured on the NewsHour on PBS.
Since 2004, Ms. Miller has been Assistant Professor of Viola and Chamber Music at Colorado State University, and is the coordinator of the new Graduate String Quartet Studies program. She has appeared as a soloist with the CSU Chamber Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs, and has given recitals and master classes in Ft. Collins, Colorado Springs, Durango, Gunnison and Pueblo. She has collaborated with the Mendelssohn Trio, Boris Garlitsky, concertmaster of the London Philharmonic, Sue Grace, pianist and artist in residence at Colorado College, and Richard Slavich, cellist at the University of Denver.
Active in the state chapters of the American String Teacher Association, the American Viola Society and the Music Teachers National Association, Ms. Miller has co-presented sessions at both summer conferences in 2007, and in 2008 she will be a judge at the MTNA national conference in Denver. She is a judge and clinician for the Pikes Peak Young Composers Competition and Summer Workshop.
