Charles Edwin Taylor

A native of Arizona, Charles Taylor has received international acclaim for his magnificent baritone and dramatic conviction.
During the 2006/07 season, he returned to the Metropolitan Opera as Germont in La Traviata and Roucher in Andrea Chenier. He will appear with both Opera Colorado and Minnesota Opera in the role of Renato in Un ballo in maschera, and will sing the roles of Tonio in I Pagliacci, and Alfio in Cavalleria Rusticana with Opera Fort Collins.
In previous Met seasons, Mr. Taylor has sung Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor, the Herald in Lohengrin, Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Biterolf in Tannhäuser, Marullo in Rigoletto, the Second Nazarene in Salome, and Montano in Otello. He is a graduate of their Lindemann Young Artist Development Program which he joined at the beginning of the 2002-03 season, after being selected as a winner of The Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 2001. He made his Metropolitan Opera debut that season in the role of the Herald in Otello.
During the 2000-01 season, Mr. Taylor was a member of Opera Colorado’s Artist Development Program. Opera Colorado appearances include the gala opening concert of the Ellie Caulkins Opera House, the Mandarin in Turandot, Lakai in Ariadne auf Naxos, and Angelotti in Tosca. Other companies with whom he has appeared include Opera Pacific, Utah Festival Opera, Portland Opera Repertory Theatre, the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, Opera Fort Collins and Operafestival di Roma.
Charles is an Artist-in-Residence at Colorado State University in Fort Collins.
