What is International Development Interdisciplinary Studies?
The International Development Interdisciplinary Studies Program offers an opportunity for students, regardless of discipline, to supplement their academic programs with knowledge in the field of international development. The focus of the programs is on the study of the structures, components, and processes of development (economic, environmental, socio-cultural, and political).
What is International Area Studies?
Area Studies is a regional specialization program. You select Colorado State core courses and add electives according to your interest in one of these area concentrations: Asian Studies, Latin American and Caribbean Studies, or Russian, Eastern and Central Europe Studies.
What is "Certification"?
After successfully fulfilling the requirements for your Area Studies or International Development Studies Concentration, you will receive a certificate to accompany your degree and your Area Studies concentration will be noted on your transcript.
Why should I consider Area Studies or International Development Studies?
As our world becomes increasingly interdependent, employers seek individuals with specific cross cultural knowledge and understanding. The Area Studies or IDS certificate enhances the value of your degree.
When should I enroll?
It is never too late to talk to an Area Studies advisor to determine if the credits you have taken will apply to certification, which additional courses you might need, and how these credits might also satisfy requirements for your degree program. Please fill out an online enrollment form or contact the Office of International Education for a form. We will put you in touch with an Area Studies or IDS advisor who will help you plan your program.
