Asian Studies
Program
The Asian Studies Program of Colorado State University (CSU) aims to introduce students to the historic and contemporary cultures of Asia and to prepare them to deal with the increasing importance of Asia to all Americans. An interdisciplinary program, Asian studies offers courses in a wide variety of disciplines through which students gain a broader and deeper appreciation of the vast Asian regions. This background prepares students for possible graduate work in Asian studies and for careers in international relations.
Requirements
Students from any department may enroll in the program. Upon completion, students receive an Asian Studies Certificate and have the certification recorded on their permanent transcripts. Annually, the outstanding student receives the Von Grunebaum Award in Asian Studies.
The program includes core courses in art, history, languages, literature, and philosophy, as well as area and supporting courses in fields such as English, political science, anthropology, and sociology. A minimum of 21 credits is required for certification. Students must take courses in at least three disciplines. Substitutions must be approved by the Executive Board.
Enrollment Procedures
The student from any discipline wishing to enroll in the Asian Studies Program should consult with one of the professors listed on the Asian Studies Program Faculty List. Students who do not have access to ASP advisors should consult with the Office of International Programs.
