Russian, Eastern and Central European Studies
Program
The basic purposes of the Russian, Eastern and Central European Studies Program are to broaden understanding of the peoples and cultures of the former Soviet Union, Eastern and Central Europe, and the Balkans; to promote the study of the former Soviet Union, Eastern and Central Europe within an integrated interdisciplinary framework, and to enhance student awareness of increasing East-West interdependence. Since Russian, Eastern, and Central European Studies is a twenty-one credit interdisciplinary certification program, rather than a major, the RECES Program supplements existing degrees and majors. The Program will educationally enrich participating students and enhance their chances of attaining professional and vocational goals.
Colorado State University has an excellent faculty drawn from leading graduate schools and training centers in Slavic Studies; an extensive collection of books, periodicals, and other materials dealing with the former Soviet Union, the Balkans, Eastern and Central Europe; and a variety of extracurricular activities to enrich the pursuit of Russian, Eastern and Central European Studies. A three-course required core and twelve elective credits comprise the Program's academic requirements. Course work in the program may also be enhanced by study abroad programs in the former USSR, Eastern and Central Europe sponsored by Colorado State and other universities with which the RECES Program can affiliate.
