Watershed and Rangeland Management is an initiative designed to provide stakeholder driven tools and training to improve the current management of watersheds and rangelands to benefit water quality. This initiative is further subdivided into information and resources concerning Livestock Care and Rangeland Management.
Education is a regional initiative committed to educating youth and teachers on watershed functions and the relationship between land use and water quality, through the development of curricula, youth programming and teacher training.
Best Management Practices are designed to help facilitate the implementation of participatory research via producer learning groups with the goal of improving water quality and agricultural profitability. This initiative is further subdivided into information and resources concerning the Colorado Corn Book.
Manure and Nutrient Management has directed to provide research and outreach for implementation of AFO/CAFO nutrient management programs to protect water quality in Region 8. This initiative is further subdivided into information and resources concerning Manure Management and Fertilizer Management.
Precision Agriculture and Geospatial Tools is a regional initiative geared toward the training of water resource managers and crop producers in remote sensing and geospatial tools for improving management decisions.
Watershed Management and Conservation has been designated to educate smallholder and underserved landowners about water quality and opportunities for irrigation water conservation. This initiative is further subdivided into information and resources concerning Water Conservation, Domestic Water Use, Landscape Water Use, and Irrigation Management.
Overall, the goal of the CSREES Northern Plains and Mountains Water Program is to protect and improve the quality of water resources throughout the United States and its territories through research, education and extension efforts.
