The CSU PID (CSU ID)

To maintain the privacy of students’ records, the university is no longer using the Social Security Number (SSN) as the primary means of identification. All students have been assigned a randomly selected ten-digit “student identification number” through the university’s student information system. The SSN will continue to be collected by the Offices of Admissions and Financial Aid for the purposes of processing aid requests through the Department of Education.

Beginning in Fall 2006, the personal identifier for all CSU students is the CSUID. The CSUID is a unique numeric identifier that begins with the digit 8. Students receive their CSUID number from the Admissions Office about a week after their application for admission has been received and processed.
